Mumbasa, Kenya -The Obama campaign suffered its greatest political blow today when a bombshell audiotape was unearthed that challenged the contender’s eligibility status for the presidency.

In the audiotape, Obama’s grandmother, speaking with Bishop McCrae, confirmed that she witnessed the birth of Obama in Kenya. When asked if she was present during the birth in Kenya, Mrs. Obama is understood to excitedly say “Yes! Yes! I was there when he was born!”

This political revelation is only the latest blow in a series of devastating setbacks for the Obama campaign, who have been dealing with everything from vice-presidential nominee Biden’s embarassing gaffes to a recent controversy over the banning of critical media outlets.

The Obama campaign couldn’t be reached for comment and has continued to implement its strategy of avoiding the Kenya story. However, insiders privately admit the campaign is worried.

“This story just won’t die,” one source close to the campaign fretted. “It seems to be getting bigger and bigger.”

The prospects of victory were looking bleak for a campaign that had been hailed by some as historic and by others as arrogant and dictatorial. Obama’s image took yet another nosedive once it was revealed that his aunt was illegally living in an urban housing project in South Boston, defying deportation orders. Earlier in the campaign, news reports revealed Obama’s half-brother lived on 10 dollars a day. Campaign insiders have had their hands full tamping down on every emerging controversy.

“These issues are popping up, left and right, and nobody in the Obama campaign can seem to keep a handle on it,” the source said. “Before he was sitting back and holding the lead – now he’ll be lucky if he can come back and win this thing.”

The contents of the audiotape appeared to lend credibility to critics of Obama, who accused him of being a “Manchurian candidate”, and one who had no ties or loyalty to America, through birthplace or heritage. Their position was strengthened as Mrs. Obama’s statements confirmed what many American people had suspected for quite some time – that Obama had in fact, been born in another nation.

The American Constitution explicitly bars foreign nationals from being eligible for the Presidency, and as such Obama would not be qualified to run or win the election. Philip J Berg, the former Democratic Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania, represented the critics of Obama when he brought forth a case that he was ineligible for the Presidency.

The case has worked its way through legal channels, and is now being appealed to the Supreme Court. Skeptics maintain that the election should be postponed until proof of citizenship can be presented to a court, and verified by a government-approved professional.
